Frequently Asked Questions Roof Blinds Do I need roof blinds? This depends on the location of your conservatory and the type of roof you have. Many of today’s Conservatories have tinted roofs and special glasses. We still find that our customers find the glare and heat gain too much to get full use of their conservatories. To over come the problem we can supply pleated blinds with a solar protective coating to reduce heat and glare. What is Solar Protective Coating (SPC)? A solar protective coating with unique optical and solar characteristics that filters and reflects sunlight more effectively than standard fabrics which helps to reduce heat build up in summer. SPC performance fabrics are flame retardant and available as pleated for roofs, and roller, pleated and vertical blinds for the conservatory sides
Most people install pleated blinds or wood weave blinds on conservatory roofs. For 2007 we have the new Perfect Fit international system for pleated blinds. This means you can have your roof blinds (and side blinds) installing without the need for drilling.
All blinds will reduce the heat to a degree because of the shade given. The pleated blinds are most efficient because of the special solar protective backing they have. This backing reduces glare and heat gain.
We have supplied blinds to all shapes and sizes of roof panels. Only on very rare occasions do we have situations where we cannot install blinds. Can I move the blinds when I do not want them over the roof? All blinds can be made to move although some shapes such as obtuse triangles may have limited movement. We can advise on this when we visit to estimate.
You can operate blinds with a pole that fits onto the moving rail of the blind. Alternatively your blinds can be electrically operated with a remote control handset.
All our pleated blinds are equalised with thread or tape on the back so that they will never go out of shape.
Some people find that insects get between the blinds and the roof panel. Periodically you need to let the blinds down and blow them away. We can do this for you as a service if you prefer.
NONE --- if you order our Perfect fit international system. We still continue to offer our standard fitting system should you prefer this. For many years we have used our own fixing bar system which greatly reduces the number of holes drilled. This system is only available from Howards Blinds as we source these fixing bars directly from a local engineering company.
We have fitted to most manufacturers’ conservatories and have vast experience of where we can and can’t fix. If you are concerned in any way we can check with the Conservatory company to arrange a letter of confirmation that your guarantee is unaffected. |
