Custom Made Plantation Shutters
The 3 Main Ways to install shutters
Their are differeent styles of custom mad plantation shutters. The main three are full height, tier on tier and
cafe. The fourth group is more specialist and comes under the broad heading of shaped custom made shutters. We have
installed arched shutters, round porthole shutters and any number of different trianglular shutters.
Shutter installation Inside the recess
In this case the shutters are fitted in the recess as far back as possible. There may be window handles that
mean the shutters cannot be fitted very close to the glass. The frame is usually side fixed if it is not too big.
For larger custom made shutters we have to additionally make some top and lower fixings. In most cases the fixings
are not visible when the shutter fit is complete.
One aspect to consider is that when you open the shutters on their hinges they will not fold back flat against
the wall out side the recess. They will rest at right angles to the glass because of hitting the recess sides. In
most windows this is not a problem but in small rooms it is not the best option.
Shutter installations outside the recess
The second fitting option for custom shutters is outside the recess. The shutter frame acts as a picture frame
to the window. When they are open they sit flat against the walls on the sides thus letting in all the light. You
also can have ornaments and photos on the window ledge as the shutter does not interfere with the recess in any
way.
Shutter installation directly onto inward opening doors
Where you have french doors or inward opening windows you have the option of having a shutter panel fixed
directly to the moving doors. See photo for some arched doors we fitted in this way. We do not often have to do
this but is a option when the window situation demands it. More Information >>> Custom Made Plantation Shutters
